Founded by Lutherans in the United States at the end of World War II, grounded in Lutheran theology and building on decades of experience, Lutheran World Relief tackles global poverty by helping people adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihoods and well-being. LWR works with people of all races, religions, and nationalities to provide aid in emergencies and help families restore their lives.
Supporting the Education of Young Girls in Sierra Leone
We know that education is one of the best pathways out of poverty. But in many places, the cost of tuition and supplies — plus the lost income from sending children to school rather than work — prevents many young people from getting an education. This year Lutheran World Relief has launched a new education initiative in Sierra Leone and we at Immanuel are committing to helping them in this work! We will be joined in worship on Sunday, May 4th by Rev. Lisa Kipp from Lutheran World Relief, who will share more about this project and the impact it has on student’s lives. Then, for the month of May we will be collecting donations with the goal of supporting the education of 40 students for 1 year! (On average the cost to send one girl to school is $29/month or $348/year.)
Due to an anonymous donor, we already have enough funds to support 14 students, can you help us support the other 26?
