Immanuel’s Promise Fulfilled with $100,000 Gift
Immanuel Congregational President Beth Hansen and Pastor Paul visited our partner congregation, Redeemer Lutheran Church, in north Minneapolis, to fulfill a promise we had made a few years ago. Redeemer formed a plan to tear down a blighted property across the street from the church and build a duplex for Student housing. The plan is for students from Luther Seminary, Augsburg College, and others interested in urban ministry, to live in the property for a reduced rent in exchange for service in the neighborhood. Immanuel not only provided volunteers to work on the construction, but promised $100,000 from our nest capital campaign to help pay for this new housing ministry.
Our Opening Doors Capital Campaign
included this commitment of giving as a way of continuing to grow, not only our benevolence, but our connection to this vital ministry partner. Thanks to the generosity of all those who pledged to the Opening Doors Capital Campaign, Immanuel raised the money to meet this commitment. At Redeemer’s Council Meeting on Tuesday, December 20th, Beth Hansen, our congregational president, and Pastor Paul fulfilled this promised gift as they presented Redeemer with a check for $100,000.
Redeemer’s congregational President Jess Felton thanked the congregation for this generous gift, and for the vital partnership we share that is a blessing to both congregations as we work together to share the love of Christ with one another and with the world. Pastor Kelly Chapman also added his thanks, and looks forward to where God will lead our partnership in the future.
Again, thank you for all the ways in which you support God’s ministry at and through Immanuel. Remember to fulfill your intention for giving and generosity this year by making a year-end-gift to Immanuel
May God continue to fill us with the Holy Spirit and inspire us to be bold, faithful, and generous!
New Year blessings,
Overview of our relationship with Redeemer
Our mission partner, Redeemer Lutheran Church
(1800 Glenwood Ave
), is in the city for good!
Immanuel has a long-standing relationship with Redeemer: assisting with their summer block parties and supporting the building of the Glenwood Project (a 2800 square foot duplex across the street from their church. Students from Luther Seminary and Augsburg College live there and receive hands on training in urban ministry).
