AMEXTRA, Mexico City 2024
In March of 2024, a group from Immanuel headed down to Mexico City to learn from our partners at AMEXTRA about how communities across Mexico have come together to support the increasing number of migrants traveling through their country on the way to the U.S. border. Tanzania 2024
Immanuel partners with Dr. Steve & Jodi Swanson who run the Institute for Child Healthcare Africa (ICHA). Dr. Swanson and his Tanzanian colleagues made dramatic improvements in infant mortality in the NICU setting at Arusha Lutheran Medical Center using evidence - based, innovative models of neonatal care appropriate from limited income settings. More than 90% of all babies including extremely premature babies weighing less than 2.2 pounds or 1,000 grams now survive in this NICU setting. Our group met with their team and saw firsthand the lifesaving work being done!
We were also grateful for the opportunity to hand deliver Immanuel quilts made by our Peacemakers Quilters for Lutheran World Relief! Immanuel members Ruth Lunde, Martin Rathjen, Kim Rathjen & Julie Summer delivered quilts along with Deacon Savannah. Thanks be to God for the gift of warmth wrapped in love!
