Lenten ScheduleIn the season of Lent we adjust our normal Wednesday evening schedule so that we can all gather for worship at 7pm each week. Beginning Ash Wednesday, February 22, Our Wednesday evening schedule will be as follows:
WorshipOur Wednesday night Lenten Worship follows the “Holden Evening Prayer” service written by Marty Haugen in 1985-1986 while he was the musician-in-residence at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in Washington State. This lovely, yet simple congregational setting of vespers follows the traditional version while including contemporary and inclusive language. The music is characterized by a folk-like lyricism. For many, one of the musical highlights comes in the Psalmnody with “Let my prayer rise up”. In this segment, the congregation sings in round, a melody that seems to describe prayers rising up like incense to the Lord. We complement the Holden Evening Prayer Service with participation by the various choirs of Immanuel. Schedule of Choir Participation:
