History & Vision of Immanuel

Giving Thanks for Where We Have Been.

  • Immanuel exists today because of the faith, vision and generosity of the people of God who have gone before us. The people of Old Immanuel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, when closing the doors for the final time after 75 years of ministry, gave their final assets to plant a daughter congregation bearing its name way out on the edge of the cities in a small farming town called Eden Prairie. They had faith that God could still do great things through them, a vision for growing God’s church, and generosity that gave so that others might know the blessing of being God’s church. • As Immanuel celebrates 50 years of ministry in 2011, we give thanks for how that legacy of faith, vision and generosity has guided and grown this church. For much of Immanuel’s life, the church has grown as the community has grown, providing a spiritual leadership and guidance in the community.
  • In the past 15 years, even as Eden Prairie’s growth has reached a plateau, Immanuel has been blessed with some of its most dramatic growth. We have built on the legacy of those who planted Immanuel, believing that God will do great things through us. We have served a vision of growing God’s church and have practiced a growing generosity of giving so that others might know God’s blessings.
  • How have we done this? Through the power of the Holy Spirit and with a committed vision of helping people live out their faith in daily life, calling excellent staff to lead this work, and growing our commitment to benevolence to where we now give 20% of our offerings to support God’s work in the world.  Immanuel is changing lives for good and for God.

Positioned for Growing Forward.

As we give thanks for our first fifty years, we share a hope for the next fifty years that is brighter than ever. We move forward from a place of blessing and strength.
We are positioned with…

  • Inspiring worship and music ministry.
  • Youth and confirmation ministry that are changing the lives of our youth and adults.
  • Family and Children’s ministry that are equipping people to pass faith on to their children and raise up the next generation of God’s people.
  • A faithful community that is marked by genuine love, contagious joy, and infectious generosity!

Our goal is to pay off our debt completely in the next 5 years so that our next appeal can be used entirely to address ministry needs at Immanuel and a substantial amount be given to support ministry efforts of the Minneapolis Area Synod. We know this is a stretch goal and are planning accordingly. If we are sufficiently blessed that we can pay down a substantial part of the principal, then with our next appeal in 5 years we can pay off the rest of our debt and still address some of Immanuel’s ministry needs and help support ministry in Minneapolis. God continues to bless us and we will continue to grow in how we give faithfully and share generously.
